Another day, another gig, another owl give-away. A big WOOHOO for Emma who won the owl by answering the question ‘What famous and techie CEO retired this week?’ (Answer: Steve Jobs).  Emma named her owl, Howl.  Let’s face it – it’s an awesome name…

The Loui remains one of our favourite Bristol venues – every time we play there the sound guy is learn-ed and friendly, the other bands are cool and a good-musical-fit, and there’s someone on hand that’s organising everything and making sure it runs smoothly.

Thanks to Heroine/Hero and Goldtripp for putting on a good show!  Much bopping was achieved.

Meet Patrick and his new owl Buttons.  What a fine pair!  Patrick won Buttons last night when he came to our show and answered the following question:

Q: How many faults did Emi get when she passed her driving test today?
A: Zero!

Patrick is awesome for several reasons.  1 – He was really freakin’ excited about winning the owl and that’s outstanding.  2 – He and his friends had pub-quiz-esque facts about Chicago that Emi had never heard before.  Win!

Last night was an interesting gig where nothing quite went right, but a good time was still had by all. Four bands were due to play, but the third band disappeared half way through the night and turned up about 20 minutes before the whole gig was supposed to finish. Everyone thought the first band (coming from London) wasn’t going to make it because of traffic, but they rolled up 20 minutes before they were due on.

Crinkle Cuts and Loki’s Motif were thoroughly enjoyable – they both get extra bonus ftw-band-points for visibly having the time of their lives on stage.

ps – Owl fun fact.  The owl given away at last night’s show is the owl that (for a very short time) looked like Hitler.

Diedre named her fuzzy guy Percy after her pet goldfish from childhood.  A good choice!

It was a great show at The Fleece!  A BIG thank you to Ash Wilkinson who did our live sound and did a seriously cracking job.  We also had a surprise when a friend from up North dropped in without telling us – thanks for coming out to the gig, Elliot :)

Our gig on 20th January was picked up by http://www.live-music-scene.co.uk and it’s a down right loverly review!  Even the crochet owl got a mention…

Kicking off the night are the electronically epic and wonderfully folksy Exit Project. After making a slightly nervous start, vocalist Emi Jarvi says a warm hello to the audience and the set starts to pick up. She keeps up these chatty, down to earth addresses to the audience throughout, even finding time for a crochet owl giveaway!?

It’s not that often you see a cello on the stage at the Fleece, yet its low hum adds depth to their sound. Combined with sporadic keyboard tinkling and soft melodies picked from the acoustic guitar the music has a transcendent, other worldly feel, and Jarvi’s soaring vocals top it all off magnificently. It’s clear that the band are having a great time.

The new business cards arrived from Moo.com today.  They always do an awesome job.  They’re double sided with a pic of the band and our contact info – short and sa-WEET.

A big congratu-freakin-lations to Daniel who won the owl at the our show on the 20th!  I had a nice chat with him and his mates after the show and he’s a lovely guy.  I know he’ll give his owl (named ‘Galafaar’ – woop!) a very good home.  It’s always good to see the little fuzzy crochet dudes go to a happy home : )

What a freakin’ amazing night!  The Fleece was packed out with people and everyone was ready to go.  The other bands were awesome.  The sound guy knew his stuff (I think he may store sound-super-powers in his dread locks).  And they had our favourite lager on tap.

A big juicy thanks to to the other bands, The New Root, Lights & Clockwork and Neo-Ritmo.  And thanks to Loki who organised the line-up – good show, chap!

Congrats to Tim Crabtree who won the owl at our Mr. Wolf’s show on 13th December.  He was one of the other acts (Paper Beats Scissors)  and it was an honour to share the stage with him.  We know it might look a little weird that another band won the owl, but it wasn’t rigged, we swear.  He just happened to have the best knowledge of owl related trivia.  Knowledge is power…
